Westlake University, located in the picturesque city of Hangzhou, is a new type of research university, a first in the history of modern China. It is both supported by public and private funding and a vanguard in the reform of the higher education system in China. With its predecessor Westlake Institute for Advanced Study established in 2016, Westlake University is striving to cultivate top talent, to make breakthroughs in basic research and innovation in cutting-edge technologies, and to foster human development through science and technology.

The 2024 Society of Engineering Science (SES) Technical Meeting, led by Westlake University School of Engineering PIs Hanqing Jiang and Dixia Fan, will take place in Hangzhou from August 20 to 23, 2024. This marks the first time that China will host the prestigious SES Annual Technical Meeting in its 61-year history. SES conferences are widely recognized as the leading forums for international and interdisciplinary researchers to discuss developments and strengthening the interfaces between various disciplines in engineering, sciences, mathematics, and related fields.
